Hey Blog!

So as you know, I still haven't decided on my subject yet but I haven't let that begin to hinder my progress. I have started brainstorming and taking inspiration from other artists' music videos in order to create a vision for my own. What I do know is that no matter what genre or artist I pick, I want to be sure that the final product of the music video is colorful and promotional. Those are the two aspects that are most crucial to me.

Last year in AS Level when we had to create our own music videos and do a branding project for a made up artist we learned about the various types of music video sales that there're, namely: promotional, story telling, performance based, abstract, and the possible combination of those few. My vision for the video is to just focus around the artist to limit the amount of people needed for the production. I'd like to shoot all in one day if possible just because I know very soon I'll be crunched for time. Also, another one of the main reasons I wanted to choose a promotional video is because I think with the particular purpose of the project its more important to focus and highlight the artist for publicity and branding reasons.

here are some examples of videos that I took inspiration from for the promotional and colorful vision.

Decisions, Decisions

Hey Blog!

Today I'm challenged with making some decisions. I have been trying to think about genre and which type of artist I want to do my package on. I know that my interests pertain to Hip-Hop, so that would be my first choice. However, because we are required to use an unknown artist who does not yet have a large following, finding a hip-hop artist with enough artistic profile to create an actual pitch might be difficult in my little suburban town.

If I can't find an artist in this genre I am going to have to reconsider. I did some research on other packages that past students in my program have created and many of the packages that have been created have been on musicians that make pop/rock or folk music. I am not completely adamant about doing hip-hop so it's just a matter of finding the right music group. Some projects from the past have aspects that I hope to recreate or take influence from which I will cite in later posts once I decide my subject for the package. Much more to come soon!

Until next time,

Kyleigh.

Introduction

Welcome Back!

I am excited to announce that I have officially begun the process of my A Level portfolio project. This year I have chosen to work alone on my project because last year I experienced a lot of disappointment and setbacks when it came to relying on a project partner. I think that this time around while working alone I'll be able to allocate my time more efficiently as well as be able to have more control over the creative process. My chosen topic of study is the music promotion package! There were a number of reasons that supported my decision to choose this topic, some of those being: MUSIC IS LIFE, I am planning to have a career in the music industry and want to use this work as supplemental material when applying for schools and internships, and I am honestly just interested interested in branding, among other things.

In this blog I'll be documenting my production techniques, thought process and creative decisions; the good the bad and the ugly. I am going to be taking you through the entire development of my senior A Level portfolio package and I can't wait! In my next few postings I'll be making some preliminary decisions for genre and strategy when choosing a subject for my promotion so stay tuned!

until next time,

Kyleigh.
